How is RF Microneedling Different From Regular Microneedling?

Wondering if microneedling can help with your skin issues and how RF Microneedling is different? You’ve come to the right place! Timeless Elements is helping patients renew and restore their skin with RF microneedling in Forest Lake, Minnesta.

We try our best to take care of our complexion. After all, you only get one skin, right? Not to mention it’s the largest, most visible organ in the body. But for all the cleansers, serums, face masks, and night creams, our skin still sometimes shows signs of damage.

Whether your skin issues are the result of sun damage, acne scarring, or simply the natural process of aging, microneedling treatments can help restore that fresh, youthful glow.

Let’s talk about how microneedling works and how Radiofrequency (RF) Microneedling is different.

What is Microneedling?

A minimally-invasive, chemical-free cosmetic treatment, microneedling is used to improve the appearance of the skin by making it brighter, more radiant, as well as making your skin tone more even. The magic truly happens with the elastin and collagen-boosting effects of the treatment and the essential cell nutrients that are delivered deep into the dermal tissue.

There are three phases that skin goes through to achieve effective skin renewal after the tried-and-true microneedling treatment is administered.

Micro-Injuries are Created

The hand-controlled device used in microneedling treatments contains small, shallow needles that create tiny puncture wounds in the skin. It may seem like wounding the skin would be counterproductive to beautiful skin, but the micro-injuries actually kick the body’s immune response into gear, and healing mode is engaged.

New Cells are Formed

The body then begins to heal the wound by increasing blood flow to the injured area and developing new regenerative cells. As the body works to repair the damage, collagen production is amplified.

New Tissue Develops

This phase is where the damaged skin is truly rebuilt. New skin tissue is developed as a result of the new cell formulation, and the result is tighter, glowing, younger-looking skin.

Which Skin Problems Can Microneedling Treat?

Wrinkles aren’t the only skin problem we wish would disappear. In fact, acne scarring, sun damage, and other unpleasant skin issues are prevalent in many adults.

It’s a good thing microneedling can treat a wide range of skin issues:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles

  • Discoloration

  • Acne scarring

  • Hyperpigmentation

  • Enlarged pores

  • Uneven skin tone

Where on the Body Can Microneedling be Used?

We all know that skin issues aren’t limited to the face. The effects of aging, scarring, discoloration and other skin issues can pop up virtually anywhere on the body. The good news is that microneedling treatments can be performed on most areas of the body that require some touching up, including:

  • Face

  • Neck

  • Back

  • Hands

  • Legs

How is RF Microneedling Different?

RF Microneedling is also a skin treatment that is minimally invasive, and it combines advanced microneedling technologies with Radiofrequency (RF) energy. When RF is used, the beneficial damage to the skin is intensified, creating even more dramatic results in a shorter period of time. The tiny needles administer the RF energy deep into the skin’s tissue with incredible precision in order to protect the surrounding skin from thermal damage.

RF Microneedling can be used on all skin types and colors and has even seen great success when it comes to preventing Post-inflammatory Hyperpigmentation (PIH) in patients with darker skin tones.

Aftercare for Microneedling and RF Microneedling Treatments

Post-treatment, microneedling patients may experience some redness, swelling, and soreness in the treated area which has a similar feel to a sunburn. These effects typically fade within 2 days after treatment.

Your skin will be slightly raw and vulnerable after a microneedling session, so it’s important to follow these aftercare tips:

  • Try to avoid the sun and use sun protection when you can’t

  • Use any antibiotic ointments or creams that your provider recommends to avoid infection

  • Go without makeup for 24 hours following treatment

  • Choose cleansers and other skincare products that have gentle formulas and hyaluronic acid

  • Avoid intense workouts or any activity that causes you to sweat excessively for 72 hours

  • Stay out of swimming pools and hot tubs for 72 hours

  • Don’t use skincare products that are meant to exfoliate, are scented, or contain harsh chemicals within 72 hours

  • Avoid serums, creams, and other beauty products that contain Vitamin C or Retinol for the first week after treatment
